How much ad fill can I expect?
How much ad fill can I expect?
Fill rates can vary based on the show's type, genre, season of podcast listening, and advertising trends. Ad fill rates tend to increase after the first 60-90 days as the platform becomes familiar with your posting habits and aligns your episodes with suitable advertisers.
Disclaimers on ad fill:
1. Creators have control over the number of ad slots opened for programmatic ads.
Reference ad slot creation tutorials:
2. Ads can change hourly, and each listen/stream may have a different ad.
3. Monetization of podcast downloads/plays depends on real-time bidding for ad insertion. Not every play/download will be monetized.
How many ad slots should I open for programmatic ads?
How many ad slots should I open for programmatic ads?
Let’s review the types of ad slots:
Insertion: Choose the timestamp of where you want to place an ad slot in your episode. More information here.
Extraction: Repurpose an existing embedded ad, only one ad will be played in this spot. More information here.
Ad Break: Use ‘Create Insertion Point’ to add an ad slot. To increase the number of ads to play within this break, toggle to increase the number of ads. For example, if you create an insertion point at 00:00:00, and want up to 3 ads to play within this break, you must select 3 in the ‘Number of Ads’ field.
Determining the ideal number of ad slots for programmatic ads depends on what best fits your show and audience. It's important to note that an ad slot doesn't dictate the number of ads in a break. If you add 3 insertion points, only up to 3 ads can be served. To maximize your insertion points, adjust the "Number of Ads" field. For instance, if you've set 3 ad breaks with up to 3 ads each, you can potentially serve up to 9 ads per episode.
Adding Insertion points or ad slots: Based on industry standards, a recommended approach is to open three ad slots for shorter episodes: a preroll (first 25%), midroll (between 26-75%), and postroll (76%-100%) ad slots. For longer episodes, such as those over an hour, maximizing ad revenue could involve adding multiple midroll ad breaks. Tailoring the number of ad slots to your episode length can optimize your monetization strategy.
